Mokkai
Okai.
Mokkai is a more common word. But it sure deserves a page or two on my blog!
One of the first things that come to my mind is Mokka Mohan - The filler on FM Radio Mirchi where RJ Siva reads out poems or sings a spoof version of film songs. It sure is a Mokkai stuff, but enjoyable nevertheless due to the light and colloquial way it is rendered.
Mokkai literally means 'Blunt'. And in Chennai Sen-Tamil means boring or dull or is a kadi (kadis are interesting but irritating or frustrating jokes)
If some one cracks a really boring or dull joke we say, Macchaan, Semma Mokkai podaraan da!
If a film is gruesomely pathetically poor and boring, we call it as a Mokkai Padam.
Some folks are also given the title Mokka Mohan for their talent for Mokkai Jokes and kadis.

Dingolfi
This Chennai Senthamil term is from the movie Majaa starring Vikram and the Dream Girl Asin! Though for the most part the movie is pretty light and entertaining; it was not a great movie. Yet the comedy is well done and worth watching to a predictable climax and expected ending!
In the movie, Vikram's brother Pasupathy has a Dingolfi on the eldest daughter of Vijayakumar - the usually-a-nattamai-however-in-this-movie-a-simple-farmer-and-a-father-of-three-motherless-girls-and-who-has-incurred-the-wrath-of-the-nattamai.
Dingolfi means Love.
What a wonderful phrase for such a beautiful thing as Love!

Doomangoli
This is one of those awesome Chennai Sen-Tamil words that instantly caught my attention and I loved it! I was watching this Trailer for a Tamil movie called Oram-Po (means move aside). The Hero drives an auto-rickshaw and is a typical Chennai movie with the cool slangs and the attitude. The title Oram-Po in itself is a popular phrase in Chennai. Radio Mirchi (the 98.3 Semma Hottu Macchi FM Radio) has a program by that name. This movie stars the cute Pooja who happens to be one of my favourites.
Now, you have to be a Chennai-ite to appreciate this wonderful word - Doomangoli. Yet I shall try my best to define it for the benefit of Non-Chennai-ites!
A Goli is a glass marble generally used as a play thing by children. Goli is a down and dirty street game that was quite popular in the past when there were play grounds and you could walk around on the roads without being run over by vehicles.
A Doomangoli is a special Goli, a big Goli, the Goliest of Golis! When used to describe a person, Dommagoli means that the person is the best there is in that class. In the trailer the Auto-Rickshaw mechanic Bigilu is a Doomangoli among mechanics!

Now that's the You Tube link for the Trailer of Oram-Po! Do watch it! It's Awesome!!
